Professional liability (E&O)
Liability coverage for claims arising from an insured's alleged error, omission, or other wrongful act in rendering professional services, as the policy defines those services and subject to its exclusions.
Professional liability, often called errors and omissions insurance or E&O, addresses allegations connected to professional work: an error, an omission, poor advice, a missed obligation, or another alleged wrongful act in the defined service.
The definition of professional services is the material boundary. In General Star National Insurance Co. v. MDLV, LLC, the Eleventh Circuit quoted a real-estate E&O policy covering claims from an act, error, omission, or personal injury in rendering or failing to render professional services. That is an example of policy wording, not a universal form.
Compare the policy definition to the services in your actual contract. A general-liability policy is aimed at a different set of allegations. See general liability versus professional liability and what tech E&O covers.
