Find the liability gap by operating period
For delivery and transport work, the decisive question is what the vehicle was doing when the loss occurred. Map personal use, time waiting for work, and an active delivery separately; then identify which policy knows about the business use and whose injury or property claim it would defend.
- Start with the platform's exact coverage window DoorDash coverage and a driver's own policy do not necessarily attach during the same periods. The active-delivery window, waiting period, and damage to the driver's vehicle require separate answers.
- Do not expect a personal umbrella to cure business use Personal umbrella coverage follows personal underlying policies and exclusions. A delivery or transport exposure has to be accepted by the underlying auto program first.
- Classify whose property was damaged Third-party property damage, cargo or property in the operator's care, and damage to the operator's own vehicle sit in different coverage buckets.
- Build the rest of the business program from actual exposures Auto liability does not replace the policies that address premises, workers, contracts, professional services, or other non-auto claims created by the business.
